Gums are plant exudates that are insoluble in water, forming a mucilaginous liquid, or softening to form a jelly-like adhesive mass, or paste. They can be emollient or demulcent, having a soothing, lubricating, and often nutritional value.
Examples from our list include Agar agar, Acacia, and Tragacanth gums. We also stock some gum-resins, including myrrh and asafoetida. The therapeutic properties of gum and resins have been known and used for hundreds of years in particularly Benzoin, Frankincense and Myrrh. Herbal Apothecary carry an unusually large range of resins including refined propolis resin.
