The Herbal Apothecary produces over 300 different tinctures. This list has been built up over the years in response to practitioners’ requests. Please let us know if you think we should be producing something new. In response to our latest practitioner survey we will be concentrating this year on development of our offering of Organic, Biodynamic and Chinese Tinctures.
Our manufacturing approach, in terms of weight/volume ratio and alcohol strength, is based on traditional usage, including eclectic and physiomedical texts. We have also developed our own profiles over the years. This is an area that is under constant review. We are working with practicing herbalists and academic institutions to develop meaningful standards which combine manufacturing technique with concepts of efficacy. There does not appear to be any single correct way of producing a tincture. However in partnership with herbal practitioners, trainers and biochemists at University of East London we are exploring ways in which we can identify stronger relationships between manufacturing process (fresh?, dried?, alcohol levels? Percolation versus Maceration etc) and effectiveness.
