Description

Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Clove Bud to 3 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 75% water and 25% sugar beet derived ethanol.

Cloves (Syzygium auranticum) are the aromatic flower buds of a tree in the Myrtaceae family. The evergreen trees are native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia and can grow to 12 m tall. Cloves are commercially harvested primarily in Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Zanzibar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. 

The clove tree is an evergreen that grows up to 8–12 m tall, with large leaves and crimson flowers grouped in terminal clusters. The flower buds of the clove plant must be picked at the right time in their development in order to be usable.

 

Medicinal Action and Uses

Analgesic - Clove has been shown to have analgesic properties. This property is particularly effective for tooth pain.Whole clove can be applied directly to the gum in problem areas. The thin skinned membrane of the gums readily absorbs oil from the clove, providing topical relief from pain.

Anthelmintic - Clove can act as an antimicrobial agent, killing parasites and bacteria in the digestive tract.

Antihistamine - Cloves are considered to have a slight antihistamine effect. A tea made from cloves has been used to treat hay fever, nasal congestion and sinus pressure.

Antiseptic - The clove has antiseptic properties and has been used as a remedy for ailments associated with the respiratory system, infections of the digestive system and urinary tract infections.

Expectorant - Helps the oesophagus produce more phlegm and act as an expectorant, easing coughs and making them more productive.

Stomachic - Clove use can soothe and relax the inner lining of the intestines, aiding in digestion. It can also aid in quieting upset stomach. Cloves are believed to beneficial for the digestive system by reducing cramps, remove flatulence and increase the absorption of nutrients. In addition, the astringent properties of the tannins present in the herb might be quite useful for diarrhoea.
