Atractylodes macrocephala, commonly called Largehead Atractylodes Root or BAI ZHU in Chinese, is a member of the Asteraceae family, native to China, Japan, Korea.

It is a perennial plant growing to 0.5m by 0.4m. It flowers from July to August and the seeds ripen from August to September. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.
