Lepidium meyenii, commonly called Maca Root, Peruvian ginseng, maka, mace, maca-maca, maino, ayak chichira, ayuk willku, pepperweed, is a herbaceous biennial plant of the Brassicaceae family native to the high Andes of Peru.
Maca is the only member of its genus with a fleshy hypocotyl, which is fused with the taproot to form a rough inverted pear-shaped body. The growth habit, size, and proportions of maca are roughly similar to those of radishes and turnips, to which it is related.
Lepidium meyenii is sometimes called Peruvian ginseng, although it is not in the same family as ginseng but is a member of the mustard family.

Organic farming respects nature and improve the health of soils, water and air. It’s about growing food in a way which is sustainable and protects ecosystems. Pesticides are a key contributor to the decline of pollinator populations. They are responsible for driving down the numbers of pollinating insects. There are also strict rules governing the use of additives and preservatives in organic products. Organic agriculture opposes the use of GM crops. Because organic agriculture doesn’t use any chemical pesticides or fertilisers it is better for nature and wildlife. Farms run this way provide a haven for wildlife like bees, birds and butterflies. Studies have found that insect, plant and bird life is upto 50% more abundant on organic farmland. And there are upto 75% more bees on organic land too!
