Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Mulberry Leaf to 3 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 75% water and 25% sugar beet derived ethanol.
Morus alba, known as white mulberry, is a fast-growing, small to medium-sized mulberry tree which grows to 10–20 m tall. It is generally a short-lived tree with a lifespan comparable to that of humans, although there are some specimens known to be over 250 years old.
The species is native to northern China, and is widely cultivated and naturalised elsewhere.
The white mulberry is widely cultivated to feed the silkworms employed in the commercial production of silk. Its berries are poisonous when unripe, but are otherwise edible.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Antispasmodic – An injection of an extract of the leaves, followed by internal dose of the sap (mixed with sugar), has been shown to be effective as a treatment for elephantiasis (a parasitic infection resulting in extreme swelling in the arms and legs) and tetanus (lockjaw), an infection characterized by muscle spasms.
Diaphoretic – White Mulberry leaves induce perspiration. So can be used to treat a fever.
Expectorant – The leaves of white mulberry have expectorant properties and can be helpful in expelling mucus caused by respiratory tract infections. It is also used in the treatment of colds, coughs and influenza.
