Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Ophiopogon Root to 3 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 75% water and 25% sugar beet derived ethanol.
Ophiopogon japonicus (known as dwarf lilyturf,mondograss, fountainplant, Snakes beard, or monkeygrass,) is a species of Ophiopogon native to China, India, Japan, and Vietnam.
It is an evergreen, sod-forming perennial plant. The leaves are linear, 20–40 cm long. The flowers are white through pale lilac. The fruit is a blue berry 5 mm diameter.
It is grown as an ornamental plant, providing an excellent groundcover. It grows well in full sun or partial shade.
In traditional Chinese medicine Ophiopogon japonicus tuber, known as mai men dong, is the cardinal herb for yin deficiency.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Expectorant – Ophiopogon can help relieve accumulation of phlegm in the nasal passages as well as sticky sputum in the throat.
Respiratory – ophiopogon can be used to soothe irritated and dried lungs, especially in those who have upper respiratory infections and those who smoke. It is also ideal for those who have been exposed to smoke, heat, and other conditions that dry the lungs.
Skin Complaints – Ophiopogon has moisturising properties and can be used to treat dry, scaly and itching skin.
Stomachic – The roots can also be used to aid digestion and help relieve severe constipation.
