Phyllanthus emblica L., also known as Indian gooseberry, or Amla belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae. It is a small to medium sized deciduous tree, found in the tropical and subtropical areas of China, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, South India, Indonesia, and Thailand.
It is the source of an important herbal drug widely used in many traditional medicinal systems such as Unani, Ayurvedic systems of medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, and Tibetan medicine. All parts of the plant have been reported as useful for treating health issues.
