Picrasma excelsa is a species of Picrasma in the family Simaroubaceae. It is found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela. It is threatened by habitat loss. Quassia is used to flavour aperitifs and bitters which are added to cocktails. Quassia Bark extract is said to be many times more bitter than quinine, and can be used as a substitute in many medications that would normally contain quinine.
