Picrasma excelsa / Quassia Chips Tincture

Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Quassia Chips to 3 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 55% water and 45% sugar beet derived ethanol.
Picrasma excelsa is a species of Picrasma in the family Simaroubaceae. It is found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Venezuela. It is threatened by habitat loss.
Quassia is used to flavour aperitifs and bitters which are added to cocktails.
Quassia Bark extract is said to be many times more bitter than quinine, and can be used as a substitute in many medications that would normally contain quinine.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Antiparasitic – Used Internally and Externally for antiparasitic reasons. It is taken Internally to treat worms and externally to treat lice.
Bitter – Quassia is considered one of the best stomach bitters. It is especially useful for cases of lack of appetite such as anorexia nervosa and digestive sluggishness.
Febrifuge – Used to treat high fevers, malaria fevers being a common one.
Insect Repellent – Quassia has been used as a successful Insect repellent.
