Pytchopetalum olacoides / Muira Puama Bark Cut

Ptychopetalum is a genus of two species of flowering plants in the family Olacaceae (not to be confused with the Oleaceae or olive family), native to the Amazon rainforest. The indigenous name for the genus is Muira Puama, “potency wood”. The species are shrubs or small trees growing to about 14 feet in height. It produces small, white, jasmine-scented flowers.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Aphrodisiac – Traditionally this herb was used by indigenous tribes as an aphrodisiac and to treat impotence. Muira puama is still promoted today as a treatment for erectile dysfunction and as a male aphrodisiac.
Gastrointestinal – It has also been used for gastrointestinal disorders and as a treatment for indigestion.
Nervine – Muira puama has been used as a tonic for nervous conditions and depressions. Its stimulant effect also makes it useful as an herb for depression.
Stimulant – Muira puama does have a stimulant effect that leaves the user with a general feeling of well-being when taken in proper doses. This is why it is used as a herbal supplement.
