Description

Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Elder Berry to 3 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 75% water and 25% sugar beet derived ethanol.

Sambucus nigra (also known as elder, elder berry black elder) is a deciduous shrub or small tree growing to approximately 6m tall. They bear large clusters of small white or cream-colored flowers in late spring; these are followed by clusters of small black, blue-black, or red berries

It is generally found growing in hedges and woods.

The genus occurs in temperate to subtropical regions of the world. More widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, its Southern Hemisphere occurrence is restricted to parts of Australasia and South America. Many species are widely cultivated for their ornamental leaves, flowers and fruit.

 

Medicinal Action and Uses

Anti-Inflammatory – Elderberries have strong anti-inflammatory and expectorant qualities and are therefore a popular remedy for cold medicines.

Anti-Oxident – The berries like most berries from other plants are loaded with antioxidant flavonoids.

Astringent – Elderberries are employed in lotions as a general astringent for the skin. I also has anti-ageing properties.

Cholesterol Reducing – Studies have found that elder berries can reduce ‘bad cholesterol.’

Immunostimmulant – It is used as an herbal remedy to boost the immune system. Black elderberries encourage a healthy immune reaction against undesired organisms that induce flu-like symptoms.
