Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Skullcap Herb to 4 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 75% water and 25% sugar beet derived ethanol.
Scutellaria lateriflora, known commonly as skullcap, blue skullcap, mad dog skullcap, and side-flowering skullcap, is a hardy perennial herb of the mint family, Lamiaceae, native to North America.
It has an upright habit, growing 60 to 80 centimeters in maximum height. It is a wetland-loving species and grows near marshes, meadows, and other wet habitat.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Antispasmodic – The antispasmodic and sedative properties of Skullcap make it a useful treatment for treating throat infections. It is also used for treating headaches from stress, neuralgia, and from incessant coughing.
Emmenagogue – It is used to promote menstruation.
Nervine – Skullcapis a nervine with sedative qualities and is helpful in the treatment of many nervous conditions such as epilepsy, hysteria, anxiety, delirium tremens and as a remedy for panic attacks.
Sedative – This herb can also be used to induce sleep naturally without the negative effects of many prescription and over-the-counter sleep aids.
