Organic Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Organic Wood Betony to 3 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 75% water and 25% Organic sugar beet derived ethanol.
Staychs betonica (or Stachys officinalis,) known commonly as Wood Betony, purple betony, bishop’s wort and common hedgenettle, is a perennial grassland herb in the mint family Lamiaceae family.
It grows to 30 to 60 cm (1 to 2 ft) tall It flowers in midsummer from July to September, and is found in dry grassland, meadows and open woods in most of Europe, western Asia and North Africa. In Britain it is common in England and Wales, but rare in Ireland and northern Scotland.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Analgesic – Wood Betony’s analgesic properties make it a treatment for painful conditions including gout, headache, and facial pain.
Anti-Inflammatory – Wood Betony is used to treat urinary tract conditions including bladder and kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) and bladder pain and swelling. It’s anti-inflammatory qualities also make it a useful treatment for breathing problems including bronchitis and asthma.
Digestive complaints – Betony is used for digestion problems including heartburn, diarrhoea, and intestinal gas.
Nervine – Wood Betony is also used to treat stress, anxiety, tension, nervousness, and epilepsy due to its sedative qualities.
Tonic – The herb is generally used as a general tonic with ability to cause muscles to relax. The effectiveness is doubled when the herb is used in combination with other herbs.
