Tabebuia impeteginosa commonly known as Pau d’Arco, lapacho, tahuari and pink trumpet tree, is a member of the Bignoniaceae family and can be found in Central and South America’s rainforests. There are about a hundred species of this large tropical tree. It is a broad-leafed evergreen that may grow to 150 feet in height, and six feet in diameter.
The tree is slow growing and usually one third is trunk and two thirds branches. Leaves are petiolate and opposite, 5 – 8 cm long with lightly serrated margins and pinnate venation. The purple or pink flowers are produced before new leaves.
