Tabebuia impeteginosa / Pau D’Arco Bark Cut

Tabebuia impeteginosa commonly known as Pau d’Arco, lapacho, tahuari and pink trumpet tree, is a member of the Bignoniaceae family and can be found in Central and South America’s rainforests. There are about a hundred species of this large tropical tree. It is a broad-leafed evergreen that may grow to 150 feet in height, and six feet in diameter.
The tree is slow growing and usually one third is trunk and two thirds branches. Leaves are petiolate and opposite, 5 – 8 cm long with lightly serrated margins and pinnate venation. The purple or pink flowers are produced before new leaves.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Antibacterial – The Herbs antibacterial and astringent properties make it a useful herb to treat a sore throat, gingivitis and mouth ulcers.
Anti-Cancer – It is thought to have anti-cancerous properties.
Anti-Inflammatory – It’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties make is a useful treatment for colitis, respiratory problems, colds, cough, flu, fever, cancer, lupus, infectious diseases, inflammation of the prostate gland, sexually transmitted diseases, boils and ulcers.
Antimalarial – Lapachol, one of the naphthaquinones found in Pau d’Arco, has been found to be effective against malaria and some types of tumour cells in studies.
Cardiovascular – Pau d’arco is used as a natural remedy for high blood pressure, poor circulation, and anaemia, and is thought to protect against cardiovascular disease.
Immunostimulant – The napthaquinones and significant amounts of quercetin found in the bark, are thought to stimulate the immune system, cleanse the body and stimulate the production of red blood cells.
Topical uses – Can be used to treatskin inflammations, fungal infections, hemorrhoids, eczema and wounds.
