Valeriana officinalis, commonly known as Valerian root, garden valerian, tobacco root, garden heliotrope and  all-heal, is perennial flowering plant in the Caprifoliaceae family. The plant is native to Europe, South Africa and parts of Asia. It has naturalised in North America. It prefers rich, heavy loam with adequate moisture.

Valeriana officinalis, commonly known as Valerian root, garden valerian, tobacco root, garden heliotrope and  all-heal, is perennial flowering plant in the Caprifoliaceae family.

The plant is native to Europe, South Africa and parts of Asia. It has naturalised in North America. It prefers rich, heavy loam with adequate moisture.

In the summer when the mature plant may have a height of 1.5 metres, it bears sweetly scented pink or white flowers that attract many insects.
