Verbena officinalis, the common vervain or common verbena, is a perennial herb native to Europe. It grows up to a metre high.
Vervain was brought from Europe to North America and is now commonly found growing not only in North America, but also North Africa, China, and Japan.
The plant does well in well-drained soil and full sun and it is often found growing along the edge of roads and in meadows.
