Fluid Extract made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Cramp Bark to 1 part liquid. Liquid comprises of 55% water and 45% sugar beet derived ethanol.
Viburnum opulus, commonly called or cramp bark, snowball tree, water elder, guelder-rose and European cranberrybush(though not closely related to the cranberry) , is a species of flowering plant in the family Adoxaceae (formerly Caprifoliaceae.)
Viburnum opulus is a deciduous shrub growing to 4–5 m. It is grown as an ornamental plant for its flowers and berries, growing best on moist, moderately alkaline soils, though tolerating most soil types well.
It is native to Europe, Northern Africa and central Asia. Viburnum opulus (kalyna) is one of the national symbols of Ukraine.
Medicinal Action and Uses
Anti-spasmodic – When a threatened miscarriage is due to uterine irritability, Cramp Bark, alongside other herbs, can be a helpful. It is also used for muscle spasms of all types, including in smooth and skeletal muscles, bronchi (such as in asthma), arteries (contributing to hypertension), and the bladder.
Astringent – The pain-relieving salicin in the herb, which is closely related to asprin, work against muscle spasms.
Uterine Tonic – Cramp Bark is used to help relax the uterus which can help prevent miscarriages in pregnancy, and to relieve uterine cramps and painful periods.
