Tincture made by a process of hydro-ethanolic percolation, with a ratio of 1 part Spearmint Herb to 4 parts liquid. Liquid comprises of 55% water and 45% sugar beet derived ethanol.

Spearmint (Mentha spicata / Mentha sativa), also known as garden mint, common mint, lamb mint and mackerel mint, is a species of mint native to much of Europe and Asia (Middle East, Himalayas, China), and naturalised in parts of northern and western Africa, North America, and South America, as well as various oceanic islands.

Spearmint grows well in nearly all temperate climates. Gardeners often grow it in pots or planters due to its invasive, spreading rhizomes. The plant prefers partial shade, but can flourish in full sun to mostly shade. Spearmint is best suited to loamy soils with abundant organic material.

Spearmint has much the same properties as peppermint, but is milder and good for use with children's complaints.

 

Medicinal Action and Uses

Analgesic -The oil has been used as a herbal pain relief when used topically.

Antispasmodic - Spearmint’s antispasmodic effect calms nausea and helps prevent gas and bloating. It is also a useful herb to treat IBS.

Expectorant - Spearmint is a remedy for the common cold and for coughing symptoms that often accompany a cold. The oil from this plant has a soothing effect for coughing symptoms and can calm certain common cold ailments. It can also help build a stronger immune system and has both antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities. Liquid Peppermint oil can be inhaled as a vapor. This manner of peppermint use can create an effective at soothing cough and cold symptoms.

Febrifuge - used to treat a fever.

Flavouring - Many Foods and beverages are flavoured with the spearmint extract oil in order to create a distinctive flavouring.

Skin Complaints - it can be used as a hair rinse to soothe both dry and oily scalp, Infections, itchiness, allergic rashes and bacterial infections.
