Staychs betonica (or Stachys officinalis,) known commonly as Wood Betony, purple betony, bishop’s wort and common hedgenettle, is a perennial grassland herb in the mint family Lamiaceae family.
It grows to 30 to 60 cm (1 to 2 ft) tall It flowers in midsummer from July to September, and is found in dry grassland, meadows and open woods in most of Europe, western Asia and North Africa. In Britain it is common in England and Wales, but rare in Ireland and northern Scotland.
